Giving Thanks in Everything

By Charles F. Stanley

Giving thanksWhy would God command us to thank Him regardless of the circumstances? The idea defies human logic. But then, the Lord rarely binds Himself to man-made rules. Scriptural principles serve specific purposes in the Christian’s life. Gratitude keeps us aware of God’s presence, which builds our trust and ultimately strengthens our witness.

We must realize that thankfulness is not based on emotions or a situation’s outcome. We can be grateful, even during trials, because the Lord has promised to work everything for our good (Romans 8:28). That means He has a purpose for every experience, pleasant or difficult. A big problem stacked against our small resources sends us running to Him, thankful He has committed to work it to our benefit.

The believer’s part is to trust God will bring good from trials and to discover His plan, which gives further reason for thanking Him. Understanding His intentions renews our strength for facing difficult trials. Expressing gratefulness changes our attitude about God, ourselves, and our situations. Most people allow hurt and stress to form a pessimistic mindset, which negatively impacts every facet of their life. But believers have God’s Spirit working within to provide courage and a flow of thanksgiving.

When we demonstrate thankfulness in harsh circumstances, other people pay attention. Our coworkers, family, and friends will want for themselves the peace and energy we derive from a grateful relationship with the Lord. So whatever you experience today, go ahead and defy logic—praise God.

Overflowing With Gratitude

As Christians, we have so much for which to be thankful. But sometimes we lose our focus, as we get sidetracked by life’s responsibilities, struggles, and challenges. Before we know it, our joy is gone, and we end up expressing a bitter, ungrateful spirit. In this message, Dr. Stanley talks about how Christians ought to be overflowing with gratitude, and begins by reminding us of the security and faith we have in our relationship with Christ. Simple obedience to God's word and waiting in His time, and reflecting on my obedience ( keeping it in Line),has made me see through God all things are possible especially when in the natural it looks impossible. God does miracles only when they are needed and we believe and have Faith and Hope in His Awesome power. Prayer, Love and Praise of God's and His word are the most powerful walk I have ever experienced!

Dr Stanley I need help in understanding my husbands christanity..He is fast to anger and the tv programs he watches I just can't understand ,and I also have been told he has started drinking and smoking pot again I confront him on this and he says no .I have learned to just leave the room when he is watching family guy and etc.If I say anything about it he tells me it is just comedy. Our marriage of 42 years has about come to an end,I love him and want to save my marriage, but I know not what else to do but pray.Sometimes I think God must want me to just shut up.I watch your program ever week and heard you many times say leave the consequences to God,well that is what I have decided to do cause I know through God all things are possible to those who believe..God bless and thanks so much

Dr, Stanley I have to thank you for your ministry. My youngest son has had some anger issues in the past. I found your Life Principle Notes on anger and printed them out. I sat with my son and together we went through your notes. Through prayer and continued listening to your Sunday morning program, my son has opened his heart. Please pray with his father and I that he may come to know the Lord. Again thank you for your ministry. May God continue to bless you.

I thank Dr. Stanley for reminding me that I must always "thank God". It is not easy for me, things are rough for us right now. I know God has a plan, and my desire is to hang in there until He works it out. Pray for my :small faith", that it may grow and become a magnet to draw others to Jesus.

Good article and thought provoking for me. I tend to be negligent in thanking God. My question: is thanking God and praising God the same?
