Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1-7
a. The gift of the Spirit - the person of the Holy Spirit given to every single believer
b. upon salvation
c. The gifts of the Spirit - those abilities God gives to each individual that fit His
d. purpose and plan for their life
e. The fruit of the Spirit - the character that the Holy Spirit wants to build in and
f. through each life
g. Human talent - given to each individual at birth - a natural talent
h. Spiritual gift - a specific ability and skill given by God to enable you to serve Him
i. wisely and at your best
2. Denominations were not created by God and are the result of man's differences of opinion and interpretations of scripture.
3. Categories of spiritual gifts:
a. 1 Corinthians 12:7 - manifestations for the common good
b. Romans 12:4-8 - function through the 7 motivational gifts
c. Ephesians 4:11-12 - offices in the church to equip the saints
4. Cautions to observe to prevent confusion in our study of gifts:
a. The Holy Spirit gives a gift to every believer.
b. No one person has all the gifts.
c. Gifts are to be employed in serving others.
d. No one should be told that they have a certain gift.
e. We are not to seek a certain gift because we think we can serve better that way.
f. Having a spiritual gift doesn't necessarily make you spiritually minded.
